Confession of the Word

The dictionary says that to confess means “ to make confession of one’s faults; to acknowledge faith in.” We are much aware of what it means to confess our faults to God and to one another. However, this  tract will consider what it means, ”to acknowledge faith in” through the confession of our mouth (Romans 10:8-10).

Confession means to speak the same thing as another; to agree with someone else (lit. “same-speak” in the Greek N.T.) This someone that we are to speak like and agree with is our Father God - His Word. “The word is alive and powerful, sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword(Hebrews 4:12). The sword of the Spirit is our tongue speaking the Word of God, putting on the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18).

Listen to what the Word of God says for us to do daily. “…LET US HOLD FAST OUR CONFESSION” (Hebrews 4:14) “Let us holdfast the confession of our faith without wavering: (for he is faithful that promised)” (Hebrews 10:23). Paul tells us that we are to affirm constantly the things of God (Titus 3:8).

Confession is saying what God says in His Word about us. We must agree with God and begin to say the same thing that He says. We are not trying to get God to respond to us, but we are responding to what He did 2000 years ago by grace through faith in His finished works at Calvary. “…let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy” (Ephesians 4:23, 24).

Let us now go into scriptures concerning the words of our mouth about who we are in Christ Jesus, our healing through salvation, and our abundant prosperity as Sons of God. We must begin to confess these things out loud as Paul wrote, “…that the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgement of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus” (Philemon 6). Faith only appropriates what God has already provided by grace.

LAST WORDS

Look to Jesus, “…the author and finisher of our faith.Hebrews 12:2. True biblical faith is simply your positive response to what God has already done by grace. Your life  is a result of your response to God’s truth or Satan lie over the years. You will see your life change as you confess the truth of God’s word. Plant God’s seeds and He will bring forth a bountiful harvest through you. Speak the Word of God out loud so you can hear your own voice say it. This causes even more faith to develop in you. Romans 10:17.
