October 2014

runningWelcome! It’s a wonderful new month to experience the awesome love of God in our hearts and lives. “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” 1

Performance Mentality…

My significance was based on my performance growing up. I just knew I’d be accepted if I performed well. Surely, I’d be loved by my parents and teachers if I made good grades. I was driven by fear of failure, which eventually led to medicating my pain with alcohol and drugs.

I believe many of us are engrained with a performance mentality without realizing it. Don’t get me wrong! It’s good to be motivated to succeed in life, but not at any cost, faking it until we make it. This self-reliant, self-dependent, peer-pressure attitude pervades the world today. That is why the Gospel message remains as timely for us today as when it was first written.

It’s no wonder that most people base their relationship with God on a performance mentality or their own efforts. Besides, the law of God was given to keep, so we’d be able to obtain salvation: WRONG! We may be able to keep even half of the Ten Commandments, but the truth is that “…everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” 2 We need a Savior!

A Heavenly Mentality…

It’s important for me to live as healthy as possible in prison. I eat healthy, do stretches, exercise daily and get plenty of sleep, but without a personal relationship with God, mental and emotional anxiety would get the best of me.

I have been born-again in the spirit for many years, which is the first step towards a healthy life. Salvation is all about living healthy: spirit, soul and body. The Holy Spirit empowers us to live healthy in soul (mind, will and emotions) and in body, free from sin, anxiety and illness.

Maybe you are experiencing anxiety right this minute and realizing the need to trust and rely upon God for health. That it’s time to step out in faith by accepting God’s goodness and grace. And that it’s all about his faithfulness and not our own. Your Savior said,

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” 3

Resting in Jesus…

The Good News is that Jesus came to relieve you of your labor and to give you rest in His work for salvation. He came for you to yoke up with Him so He could carry your load of sin. He wants you to kick back and rest in His love at the cross. He made it easy for you to receive salvation.

The trouble is our pride. Because of our performance based mentality, it’s hard for us to let go and let God. We think it couldn’t be as easy as trusting in the finished work of the cross – Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. But it is; it’s nearly too good to be true news.

It’s the goodness of God that leads to repentance. 4 Repentance is simply a change of mind. It’s turning from sin to God for salvation and eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ. 5

Believe & Receive…

It’s time to believe and receive the works of Jesus on the cross instead of trusting in religious works of our own. Christianity is the only faith that has a personal Savior. All the others are based on a performance mentality – rules and rituals.

This website is all about how Jesus Christ came to make you right with God. Your good works can’t make you right with God. “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” 6

All you have to do is believe and receive the miracle of salvation for a healthy life. Believe what Jesus did through his finished works and receive forgiveness from sin. That is the Good News. Won’t you come to Jesus?

A Prayer for You…

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, I present myself to You. I am sorry for my sins. I receive Your forgiveness. I believe Your Son, Jesus Christ, died on the cross to pay for my sin, and arose from the dead. I want to be born-again and become a new creature in Christ. Right now, I ask You, Jesus, to come into my heart. Please change my life and make it pleasing to You. Amen.
