Sponsor An Inmate

A large percentage of inmates in prison have no income. There are few paying jobs in prison. The State provides for the most basic needs, but not all. For instance, California supplies soap and tooth powder, but not toothpaste, shampoo and deodorant.

Inmates are allowed to purchase from a list of products at their canteen, but at least half of the inmates never go. Your sponsorship would allow him/her to live a more productive life.

Some inmates help the less fortunate with their needs. In some cases, you'd be supporting an inmate missionary behind prison walls. All I ask is that you pray and hear from the Lord what He'd have you to do. You may be led to start by writing a prisoner.

Most prisons in the U.S.A. receive checks and money orders for depositing into an inmate's trust account. Be sure to place the inmate's DOC number on the check before mailing it. Some prisons use companies for electronic deposits.

Here is a list of those companies:

STAMPS

Stamps are very expensive for an inmate. The State pays the postage for those without funds, but stamps are required once they have a few dollars.

It helps to include a self-addressed- stamped envelope when you write to a prisoner. If you send a few stamps, it would aid in their rehabilitation, by encouraging their development of new social skills through outreach and relationships.

Some States allow e-mail from inmates who can purchase a small tablet for e-books, games and music as well. Pray that those States who do not allow e-mail will open the door. May God's love abound. Amen!

"And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work" (2 Corinthians 9:8).
