A
friend is a person whom one loves and trusts;
a close companion or comrade. Perhaps the most
famous friendship in the Bible was that of David
and Jonathan. They had a covenant relationship
with one another.
"And it came to pass, when he had made
an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of
Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and
Jonathan loved him as his own soul . . . Then
Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he
loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan stripped
himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave
it to David, and his garments, even to his sword,
and to his bow and to his girdle" (1
Samuel 18:1-4).
A covenant is an agreement between two people
that involves promises on the part of each other.
Because of their covenant relationship, Jonathan
warned David of Saul's plot against his life.
When Saul sought David's life, Jonathan prayed
on behalf of David, and Saul reinstated David
to his good favor. Jonathan's loyalty to David
was proven time after time as he warned David
of Saul's threats of vengeance and encouraged
David in time of danger.
What else could we hope for in a true friend?
We are proud to present the testimonies of our
friends -- people whom we love and trust; close
companions or comrades in covenant relationships.
These friends are not only our friends, but friends
of God, who have come into His presence. Abraham
was called God's friend (2 Chr. 20:7; James 2:23),
and God spoke to Moses "face to face, as
a man speaks to his friend" (Ex. 33:11)
Jesus said we are His friends if we obey Him
(John 15:14). Isn't it so great to not only have
friends on Earth, but to know that we are all
friends of our Heavenly Father in our Lord Jesus
Christ?
Will you be our friend? No necessarily
sharing a testimony, but to come along our side
in love and trust, become a close companion or
comrade in covenant relationship. The Lord places
special people in our lives, and we believe this
could be the case with you. If the Holy Spirit
is calling you to come along side this outreach,
contact us by e-mail and let us know what the
Lord is placing upon your heart.
The testimonies you are about to read are from
old and new friends. For instance, Norman Ezell
has been Charles' best friend for almost 30 years.
Truly, a Jonathan and David friendship. But whether
old or recent, our friends are very special. Jesus
says, "Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends"
(John 15:13). Our desire is to be your friend
and to share the testimonies of our friends.
